Onlays are suitable for patients with more extensive damage that includes the cusps or the biting surface of the tooth. When the decay or fracture surround the tooth's area these restorations are used to replace lost tooth tissue. Both inlays and onlays are indirect restorations, meaning they are fabricated outside of the mouth and then cemented into place.
